Bohemia Hookham

Born in South Africa and raised in Brisbane, Bohemia Hookham is an artist and architect whose work is informed by nature and biophilic design principles. She has lived and travelled in South America and aspects of Andean craft culture are evident in her work. While studying Architecture at the University of Melbourne she developed the first prototype of the Coconido - a nest-like rocking chair reminiscent of a bird’s nest.

Drawn to natural materials, the authenticity of traditional craft, and woven textiles, Bohemia is primarily interested in exploring ways to reconnect people with the natural world. She is currently developing a weaving practice on a home-made loom as part of her ethos to honor traditional handcraft.

Her work has been displayed as a part of the University of Melbourne’s Ex-Lab: Digital Furniture Fabrication.
