For the first presentation with Design Miami, Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert will curate a diverse but complementary collection of work by significant artists from around Australia and its diaspora which includes First Nation.
Australia is vast, but sparsely populated, and the presentation will bring together designers and artists, usually thousands of miles apart, under one roof to provide a fresh perspective on what Australian design is today and spark a dialogue.
Even though Australia boasts one of the oldest continuing peoples on earth, it is at the same time one of the youngest. It is therefore important that we provide a platform for culture to be placed at the forefront of our society and that Australia is recognised for both its rich heritage and contemporary narratives.
Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert’s intention is to bring focus and a thought provoking presentation about the unique Australian environment, flora and fauna through art and design in a time where climate change becomes visible.
Each artist, or collaborative pair, explores Country as their inspiration to captivate and ask the viewer to engage, reflect and see the world through their work - placing a lens on and storytelling through their respective material of choice.
The artists are chosen for their practices, which work with either traditional or innovative and new techniques of making, Australian timbers or storytelling to bring focus to the rich tapestry of art and design in Australia.
Artist’s included are Marion Borgelt; Olive Gill-Hille; Kyoko Hashimoto; Guy Keulemans; Damien Wright; Bonhula Yunupingu; David Tate; Charles Trevelyan; and Rive Roshan.
