Circle of Her: Tammy Kanat, 2025

Hard cover book
A series of powerful new works by fibre artist Tammy Kanat, Circle of Her explores Jewish female archetypes through large-scale woven installations. The book, and its accompanying exhibition, reimagine traditional narratives through a contemporary lens - with vibrant colour, intricate texture and a deeply symbolic approach. Along with Jewish archetypes, the sculptures also pay tribute to the very real women in the artist's own life - her mother, daughter, sister, friends, colleagues, and the artists who inspire her - all part of a circle that holds, nurtures, and connects. At its heart, the Circle of Her is about honouring the threads that shape us, the women we come from, those beside us, and the ones we carry within.

Tammy Kanat is a Melbourne-based fibre artist and weaver whose practice brings a deep understanding of harmony, form, and composition into her textile work. She approaches each piece with a sense of curiosity and playfulness, allowing intuition to guide her through every decision — from colour selection to the movement of warp and weft. Through this instinctive approach, Kanat’s pieces take on a life of their own — expressive, embodied, and emotionally resonant. In 2019, she was selected for MECCA x NGV Holiday Artist Collaboration. Her work is now held in the NGV collection.

Tammy Kanat is represented by Gallery Sally Dan Cuthbert.
