Cartier has officially landed at Melbourne’s NGV—a glittering, high-voltage display of nearly 400 jewels once worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Rihanna, Princess Margaret and the Duchess of Windsor.
The celebrations kicked off last night with an exclusive fete held for the occasion. The show stitched intimate archive material together in a celebration of high jewellery, history and culture, and Melbournes cultural cohort came out in glittering fashion to commemorate the occasion. Guests in attendance included Margaret Zhang, Phoebe Tonkin, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Gemma Chua Tran, James Majoos and more.
Created by V&A, London, in partnership with NGV and in collaboration with Cartier, the exhibition features loans from significant international collections, alongside highlights from the Cartier Collection. The exhibition design is a collaboration between NGV, Studio Sabine Marcelis and CLOUD, two multidisciplinary design practices based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In this context, Cartier’s latest exhibition at NGV promises a foray into the world and art-making of high jewellery in Australia—on an entirely elevated scale.
