Shadow Light’ at Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert in Sydney is the first Australian solo exhibition for New Zealand-raised Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, whose celebrated functional art pieces Candy Cubes and Soap Table are joined by new mirrors and lights in the show. Creating a captivating interplay of soft, fairy floss-like ephemerality and sleek, monolithic heft with saturated pastels and luminescent optical effects, Sabine’s experiments in materiality seek to capture a sense of the sublime that harks back to the landscapes of her Antipodean childhood.
