Sabine Marcelis' Merging Blocks is the ninth artwork commissioned by the Trust for the 4 plinths. Two years in the making and made possible by the generosity of the Collin Post Trust, Sabine will discuss her latest works and practice in conversation with trustee, Nick Barratt-Boyes.
Marcelis is a Netherlands-based artist and designer whose works are characterised by pure forms that highlight material properties. The use of colour and reflection in Merging Blocks is a signature of her work, but this sculpture also marks a significant moment in her practice. It brings a greater scale and permanency with the four large coloured and mirrored glass volumes, in varying proportions and orientations, injecting warmth into the grey bollards and their surrounds.
