The C-Type photogram, Cavitation (darkroom study), is a portrait made without a camera, formed through the body’s direct interaction with light in the colour darkroom.
“Without the use of a camera or negative, my own body, placed in front of light-sensitive paper, becomes both obstruction and participant, shaping how light registers on the surface. This process aims to mirror the experience of being underwater, where light refracts, scatters, and distorts perception, disrupting spatial orientation. When I dive, I adjust to shifting visibility, weightlessness, and the unpredictable behaviour of light beneath the water’s surface. Like light cavitating around a submerged form, the medium of the photogram materialises the body’s negotiation with space and perception, reflecting the embodied adaptation required in both diving and darkroom practice.” - Izabela Pluta
