The work is a wall mounted three-dimensional object – standing in front of the work, the suspended white plaster square is the front plane of a square with a hole in it, suspended against a black substrate (exactly twice the width of the white plaster face). The circular black hole is also mathematically proportioned to the square, which appears like a flat black shape. Similar to other work it is at the level of the head and "when on the wall, its proportions meet the viewer’s gaze, ‘mirroring’ the face". Moving forward the flat circular shape increases and backward it decreases and the black edge around the white square changes in width proportionately. The space between the front plane and the substrate, is activated and creates a topological affect, deforming spatial coordinates between two and three-dimensional space. The work explores the ambiguities of pictorial space and sensations through materials and objects that are present, but not there.
