...and the earth sang up her song is inspired by the tiny carnivorous sundew, Drosera salina, that grows exclusively on the edge of salt-lakes in the wheatbelt of Western Australia. These diminutive plants grow from tubers in quartz sand to the height of a mere five centimetres.

Due to their size sundews are easily overlooked, however they are a canny warrior of a plant. They lure, capture, kill and ingest insects with the beauty of their glistening leaf traps, while to attract pollinators they are graced with beautiful flowers, huge in comparison to the rest of the plant.

Magnifying their size brings attention to the often unnoticed, highlighting the beauty, complexity, and fragility of these minuscule but mighty plants. Depicting the unseen of the underground parts of the plant adds yet another layer of reveal and wonder.

This work is created in sterling and fine silver (sourced from a provider who is accredited by the Responsible Jewellery Council), and is entirely hand forged from sheet silver. The use of silver adds a layer of preciousness fully deserving of these inestimable plants.
