For the inaugural edition of Sydney Contemporary 2020 online, Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert is pleased to present new and recent work made by five important Australian and New Zealand female artists: Marion Borgelt, Tarryn Gill, Jacky Redgate, Lisa Reihana and Sally Smart.
Featuring work made in a range of media, including painting & collage, wall sculpture, and photography, the presentation highlights the artists’ commitment to defy conceptual and formal art practice by subverting traditional modes of art-making.
The works exemplify the importance Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert places on presenting museum-quality artists who engage in complex conversations. The exhibiting artists have worked, often under the difficult circumstances of lockdown, to create their work whilst simultaneously preparing work for participation in museum shows locally and abroad, Biennales and public commissions, all while dealing with changing timelines as a result of the rolling lockdown of public buildings.
