The culmination of a 20-year project by designer and filmmaker Don Cameron, ‘Communion’ is a series of arresting black and white portraits of worn and abandoned buildings positioned between stark natural landscapes and cloudless skies. Redolent of a faded modernist utopia, these stacked, totemic masses of brutalist concrete are recast as epic sculptures in Don’s elegiac pictures, which are showing at Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert until August 30. Unglazed with a matt finish and custom frames in faceted bronze, the photographs are indeed works of sculpture in themselves.
