Eight of the most original, thoughtful and certainly beautiful new creations from local creatives.
There’s been an exponential growth of interest in Australian creativity over the past decade,” says Sydney-based industrial designer Tom Fereday,

London-based Australian designer Charles Trevelyan – who holds degrees in material science and engineering – spent several years experimenting with 3D printing resin and sand to come up with a new material that would enable him to make unprecedented forms.
The Gyre table lamp is composed of four eccentric loops that appear to swirl around one another yet never touch, their orbit anchored by a slender brass pole that acts as an axis. “I worked very hard at creating pieces that don’t just have one great angle, but actually work all the way around,” he explains. “Because of the way the shells are layered and the material density is varied, light diffuses and emanates across the form.” Because the colour is built up within the material itself, rather than applied at the end, the pink and grey “webbing” glows gently through the forms.
