Lisa Reihana is a multidiciplinary artist of the Māori (Ngā Puhi) descent, based in Auckland. She is known for creating digital animations that explore the indigenous and colonial histories, gender and representation. Early works draw on Māori designs, considering their presentation in museum collections for instance, and using them to question steriotypes past and present. Presented when Lisa Reihana represented New Zealand at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, In Pursuit of Venus is an epic panoramic video many years in the making. It restages and animates a Western design - the multi-panel scenic wallpaper Les Sauvages de le Mer pacifique by Joseph Dufour.
