We are excited to announce that entries are opening soon for the 2022 Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture. Submissions can be made from Monday 2nd of August 2021 until the 19th of November 2021. All applications must be submitted online via the Prize website.
This will be the fourth time the Tom Bass Prize will be awarded and we invite established as well as emerging, and young sculptors to enter. We are pleased to confirm that the exhibition of finalists will again be held at Juniper Hall in Paddington, commencing on the 3rd of March 2022 and concluding on Sunday 20th March 2022.
The Tom Bass Prize for Figurative sculpture was initiated to mark the 100th Birthday of Tom Bass AM (1916 -2010), and is an acknowledgement of the influence Bass has had as one of Australia's pre-eminent sculptors and educators.
We will have three NEW Judges for the 2022 Prize: Sally Dan-Cuthbert, Lea Ferris and Barry Keldoulis, we are so excited that they will be bringing their expertise and passion to the judging panel for the 2022 Prize! Read a very short intro about each of them below...
Sally Dan-Cuthbert - is an established Sydney art advisor. After more than 30 years working in fine art, Sally has shifted her focus to include functional art and contemporary design through the opening of Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert. Sally’s career has included curating the 60th Anniversary Exhibition for The Blaxland Gallery, art specialist for Christie's Auctioneers in Australia and for the past 28 years as an independent fine art advisor. Over the years Sally has built up important relationships with galleries, curators, artists and collectors which has kept her at the top of her profession.
Lea Ferris - Lea Ferris studied sculpture for five years with Tom Bass (1992-1997). Originally modelling in clay and casting in plaster, resins or bronze, she now works primarily in marble. Lea is a prize-winning sculptor represented by Defiance Gallery in Sydney, and has exhibited extensively at Defiance and also in group shows throughout Sydney. She has made large scale outdoor sculptures as well as miniatures. Her work is in collections across Australia, in Hong Kong and in The United States and she has completed commissions in Australia and in the US.
Barry Keldoulis - Barry Keldoulis, Director of Sydney Contemporary, has more than three decades experience in contemporary art. Since his return to Sydney after nearly fifteen years in New York and Europe, Barry Keldoulis has worked in the museum and commercial gallery worlds, and in 2003 opened his own gallery, GBK (Gallery Barry Keldoulis), to fill a gap in opportunity for young artists to exhibit between artist-run spaces and the major commercial galleries. Barry was also Chair of the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA).
