Orbit City
"Orbit City is my speculative vision of a future urban environment, where the boundaries between architecture, environment, society, and the unknown blur.
Continuing my explorations in glass, both as material and metaphor, the forms I create draw from architectural language but resist function. Glass reflects, refracts, conceals, and reveals. It embodies both fragility and resilience, transparency and distortion. I endeavour to explore how light interacts with surface and space, suggesting windows, thresholds, or interfaces. Portals between the past, the present, and the possible.
Riffing on images that lodged in my consciousness while reading Moebius’ The Airtight Garage many years ago, the works in this exhibition draw on the visual language from science fiction, cartoons, and graphic novels.
Within Orbit City, shapes, structures, and patterns emerge – a skyline built from the dreams of our past and hopes for the future. Its buildings hum with ambiguity; they are monuments, machines, homes, and inclusive societies all at once.
I am interested in how we imagine the future – Orbit City invites the viewer to step into a liminal space, a city that hovers between orbit and Earth, fiction and form, anticipation and memory."
