‘Serpentile’ narrates the story of an agile fabric, when it attempts to trap the fluidity of concrete. Concrete submits to gravity, and the fabric traps its soul. The process of deriving an aesthetic becomes inherent in its materiality. It channelizes the embodied energy of a two dimensional fabric and narrates itself, into a three dimensional piece of furniture, influencing its sculpt, colour, texture and depth.

Serpentile, sets the stage for numerous such fabrics, awaiting to narrate the story of their embodied weave and be reincarnated as a piece of furniture.

The artwork emerges with a hand stitched fabric formwork and cast upside-down, as a monolith concrete table, creating a jointless piece of furniture. The fabric selected for this process was a painter’s rag which interacts with the concrete leaving behind a grainy serpent like texture and colour residues. The finishes used on the surface are subtle and true to its materiality. They refuse to overpower the richness of the scaled texture
