In Rive Roshan's debut Australian solo exhibition, Internal Reflection, the Amsterdam-based artists and life partners Ruben de la Rive Box (Netherlands, 1981) and Golnar Roshan (Australia, 1986) showcase a new series of mesmerising functional art objects and shifting wall pieces.

Rive Roshan strive to demonstrate how the interplay between light and matter highlight the world’s intricacies to illuminate the colours and reflections we see. The artists believe that taking notice and seeing the magic in our environment makes us more empathetic and considerate of those around us and encourages connections.

“We believe that by living with objects that make you feel good and positive, you are influenced to make more mindful choices in life.”

The artists expand further their exploration of 'shifting perspectives' to encourage the inspiration of a new way of seeing:

“We see by the grace of light. Imagine our minds as prisms, refracting the myriad of radiating colours that flow in through our eyes. We don’t just see objects – we witness the rebounding light, shaping our internal world like coloured rays seeping into Plato’s Cave. These internal reflections can transcend time, projecting radiant memories”.

In Internal Reflection, Rive Roshan present a body of new sculptural functional art objects that include Radiance Tables, a Radiance Bench and Colour Shift Floor Lights.  The Radiance works are made of textured, reflective glass, set over prints of colour created by the artists, to reflect their surroundings, spread and diffuse light, and move like rippling water as you engage with them. The Colour Shift Floor Lights are made similarly, however, being lit from within they infinitely bounce and reflect light through the minimalistic sculpture to create shimmering light effects. New editions of coloured Radiance Panels continue to evoke a response through their intricate surface of highly detailed structured glass circles that absorb, animate and appear to emit light. The exhibition also includes the artist’s first works created in Australia - A time to reflect wall art object and Colour Dial table (the artist proof was acquired by The National Gallery of Victoria).

Through the interplay of the coloured prints and textured glass within purist forms, Internal Reflection presents an ethereal landscape of monolithic functional objects, lighting and wall-based artwork.

Beyond the first impression, the artists strive to make work that evokes internal reflection with the aim to colour perception with hope, optimism and empathy.
