Seepage (mirage) is a hand-printed silver gelatin photograph that captures a constructed studio still life of a bronze coral sculpture set against a backdrop of creased and folded UV film....Seepage (mirage) is a hand-printed silver gelatin photograph that captures a constructed studio still life of a bronze coral sculpture set against a backdrop of creased and folded UV film. Both the backdrop and sculpture are sliced in half by the partial presence of a mirror, which reflects fragments of the scene, creating a disjointed interplay between reality and illusion. The mirror, only partially legible, introduces subtle visual disorientation, inviting the viewer to question the boundary between material presence and its reflection.
This kind of ‘mirage’ amplifies a sense of perceptual ambiguity, referencing the natural phenomenon where light bends to create an optical illusion of displaced or distorted imagery. In this context, mirage also tries to speak to the instability of representation, the layered interplay of light and material, and the tension between what is real and what is imagined.Exhibitions
