Emissary No.3 - Nootka Ancestor was made whilst Reihana was undertaking research in England and this image was subsequently included in the Venice Biennale 2017 catalogue. The Nootka Ancestor cultural object is held in the collection of Cambridge Anthropology Museum, UK.
Reihana created this image to resist museological documentation practices. In Emissary No.3 - Nootka Ancestor Reihana removes the cultural object from its museum setting and reimagines it in a location she hopes is somewhat like her/his place of origin. This moody, outdoor landscape suggests a reason for her/his wildly animated hair, the coldness shunned by fur clothing, and the camp beyond suggesting a lived life.
