An outstanding example of contemporary design, a chest on stand made entirely of European Sycamore. Remarkably, the cabinet has been created from a single piece of timber, selected for its unique figurative nature. Waterfall grain flows from start to finish, while the hand-made veneers on the drawer fronts, also from the same piece of timber, ensure a perfect colour balance.
The five drawers are subtly graduated to further evoke a sense of wholeness and balanced perspective. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with minimal clearance as an example of functional strength and refinement.
The drawer handles maintain the concept of pattern, light and delicate detail. Minimalistic simplicity, perfectly matched veneers and each immaculately hand-made, the handles are as pleasing to the touch as they are to the eye.
There is an effect of lightness, floating and gentle elevation as the cabinet sits effortlessly and elegantly upon the base on frame. The space created by the frame is both powerful and subtle, statuesque in presenting the functioning chest above. Attention is drawn to ideas of reflection, beauty and balance as one contemplates the piece as a whole.
Constance Chest is a remarkable example of fine design, beautiful timber and craftsmanship coming together in a harmonious balance.
