The kitchen has long been a contested domain, layered with ambitions of progress and modernity, as well as the context for dreams and battles of the new. In 1959, at the height of the Cold War Khrushchev and Nixon’s ‘Kitchen Debate’ rigorously argued social superiority against the backdrop of a typical’ American kitchen Field, is at once a memory of Modernism’s hard edge abstraction and humming colour fields, ground from the essence of the modern era, Aluminium, the substance of jet planes and baking pans. It is from this kitchen cabinet that Field sews material residue into a blanket of soft reflection.
